The well-known SGIA Expo gave way to the birth of a new larger show this year, PRINTING United, debuting in Dallas, October 23-25, 2019. The SGIA Expo had previously focused the show on large format printing and graphics. As Printing United, SGIA expanded the scope to include commercial offset printing, including in-plant and packaging markets, bringing them all together into one show for the first time.

My first impression walking into Printing United was that the show had simply become too large with the new editions, adding up to over 600 exhibitors. However, the positive aspects of expanding the show soon became evident. There were a number of first-time exhibitors and attendees, but the culture of the new additions blended well with the show veterans. New leads were abundant, and connections were easily made at the many networking opportunities. The sense of community was evident, and I heard many attendees describe it as the best show yet.

Combining the different channels of printing into one show was a rousing success. Focus on sustainability and eco-friendly printers was a common thread throughout, as well as diversification for profitability. Having the latest trends and technologies under one roof was a great opportunity to look into the larger field of printing and find inspiration for your business. I look forward to attending Printing United next year, and watch it continue to grow into a powerhouse resource for the printing industry.
